DEL OTRO LADO DE LA CARRERA

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RACE

The other side of the race

Some people don't get up early to run, but to cheer. They don't wear racing shoes, but they still traverse the city. They carry flags, drums, ready voices. And they are not just there to watch their favorite runner pass by. They are there to make everyone who dared to run feel good.

Because when steps falter and legs burn, a shout, an applause, a "WOOHOO, COME ON!", is enough to keep someone from giving up.

They too run the cheer... from the soul.

So, if you're cheering from the sidelines this year, here's a Top 10 list of recommendations for being the best official cheerleader:

🏁 1. Check the route and schedule

No excuses: go to the race website, check the route, and save the schedule. This is key to knowing where to stand and when to be there.

🚧 2. Remember: some streets will be closed

Plan how you'll get there. Many avenues will be blocked, so leave early, and if you can, walk or bike between points.

🏃♂️ 3. Locate your runner's corral and start time

Each person starts at a different time and corral. Make sure you know exactly what theirs is so you don't miss them in the crowd.

📍 4. Choose a strategic spot

Some routes allow you to see them twice if you position yourself well. Map in hand and planning in mind!

🧃 5. Prepare everything the night before

Flags, banners, drums, signs, cap, sunscreen, snack, electrolyte drink. Whatever keeps your spirits high... and your voice strong.

📣 6. Avisa a tu corredor en qué kilómetro estarás

There's nothing like knowing someone will be waiting for him at km 14 with love, noise, and a smile.

🫂 7. Gather like-minded people. It's okay to invite aunts, cousins, and friends. The more, the merrier. A loud cheer can lift even the most exhausted runner.

🗣️ 8. Prepare to lose your voice
And gladly so. It's all worth it. A cheer can change the day for someone at their limit.

🍌 9. Did they ask for help on the route?
There are races where it's allowed for you to give them a gel, a banana, or a drink at a certain point. Ask beforehand, prepare it, and don't fail.

📲 10. Download the official app
Almost all races have an app to track runners. Ask for their bib number and follow them in real time. This way, you'll know exactly when they're approaching.
📸 BONUS: Have your camera ready!
There's no better memory than a photo at the kilometer mark where they almost gave up but saw you and kept going.
(Tip: set your phone to burst mode or video so you don't miss the moment.)

Because yes, the race is also run from the sidelines.
And even if you don't run it, your energy can carry someone to the finish line.
Thanks for being there. For cheering. Por ser parte del corazón que late desde afuera.
